PETER RYAN MEGLOW, aged 28, a Seaman employed on the US ship MV Chapman, appeared in the Ascension Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 10 January and pleaded Guilty to charges of dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. The Court heard that the charges arose from the accident which occurred near Hogan’s Bypass on the early evening of New Years Eve. There was only one vehicle involved, a hire car being driven by Mr Meglow, which crashed after leaving the road. The vehicle was so badly damaged as to be an insurance “write-off.” Mr Meglow and his two passengers were injured, one of the passengers having to be medivaced back to the United States. Both passengers were also crew members of the MV Chapman. Mr Meglow, who was represented by Lay Advocate Mrs Georgie Benjamin, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £635. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
