ASCENSION:
A much drier week than recently with some good sunny spells at times.Temperatures still slightly below the seasonal normal.
ST. HELENA:
A very cloudy week with only 3.8 hours sunshine. Patchy light rain at times but amounts still not great. On the plus side winds were lighter than of late.
UK:
With autumn now well-established overnight temperatures approached freezing in places with ground frosts fairly common. The north and west saw plenty of cloud with heavy rain at times over west Scotland. Not unusually this time of the year the southeast remained largely under the influence of a continental anti-cyclone resulting in dry, clear weather and light winds. Of course the penalty for autumnal high pressure is mist and fog patches forming in low-lying areas which can be slow to clear. Passengers on last Tuesday night’s northbound airbridge had first hand experience of this with fog at Fairford resulting in the aircraft diverting to Birmingham.
FALKLANDS:
A fresh to strong west-northwesterly airflow affected the Falkland Islands last week. This kept temperatures on the mild side and also very dry.
