Ascension : SERGEANT CLARENCE ROBERTS RECEIVES THE CLASP AWARD FOR COMPLETING 25 YEARS SERVICE

His Excellency the Governor has approved the Clasp award to Sergeant Clarence Roberts in recognition of having completed 25 years of qualifying Service.
His Excellency the Governor has approved the Clasp award to Sergeant Clarence Roberts in recognition of having completed 25 years of qualifying Service. In 1998 Clarence was awarded the Colonial Police Long Service Medal for 18 years service, the clasp is an addition to the Long Service medal.
On Saturday 11th June 2005 during the celebration of the Queens Birthday held at the Residency, His Honour the Administrator Andrew Kettlewell presented the Clasp to Sergeant Roberts.
Here is a summary of Sergeant Roberts Career.
Sergeant Roberts joined the St Helena Police Service on the 1st August 1979. He successfully completed his initial training course at the Police Training Centre at Ashford in Kent in 1987. He passed the Sergeants examination in 1988 and was appointed to that rank in August 1989. He sat and passed the Inspectors examination in June 1989 and has performed the duties of Inspector of Operations here on Ascension and on St Helena, he has received letters of commendations for devotion to duty and long hours worked and for commitment and dedication to police work. He also has a considerable amount of experience in prison management having received training from Chris Gibbard, Coordinator for the Overseas Territories and most recently undertook a course on St Helena with James Haines from Kings College, London on Human Rights approach to Prison Management.
In September 2000 Sergeant Roberts attended a Police Trainers Development Course at the National Police Training Centre at Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and successfully passed the course. He also attended a Public Order Commands Course and Personal safety Course in Self Defence at Manchester. All of the courses attended were seen as beneficial to the service. During his position as Training Officer he received a Certificate of merit from the Assistant Superintendent of Police for maintaining total commitment and professionalism in the training and development of staff in the St Helena Police Service and most recently was given the responsibility to identify and train personal from within the Government Service and Private Sector on various functions of disaster management. The training was delivered to a professional standard and with an organized time scale. Clarence has also received the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal.
