Ascension : PRESS – RELEASE By the Attorney General: Mr K Baddon
Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 17.02.2005 (Article Archived on 03.03.2005)

A young person, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has recently received an official caution from the police for riding a motor cycle while under-age and uninsured.  During the investigation, it came to the attention of the police that some members of the public may be under the impression that it is not necessary to have a driving licence or insurance in order to drive on the Long Beach Road (leading to the Saints Beach Hut).

I have advised the police that this section of road (although covered by sand for much of its length) is a road within the meaning of the Road Traffic (Ascension) Ordinance.

It follows that both a driving licence and suitable insurance are required when driving a vehicle on this road; failure to comply with these requirements is likely to lead to prosecution.
