I arrived on Ascension Island on the 1st of July and I have loved every minute so far!

I arrived on Ascension Island on the 1st of July and I have loved every minute so far! This is a great place, with more to offer than I could possibly have imagined. Let me start by saying, thank you for warm welcome Iíve received from the Ascension Island community. Iíve enjoyed meeting everyone from His Honour the Administrator, Mr. Colin Wells to the RAF Ascension Island Base Commander Mark Taylor and the community of Saints to include the fine children I had the pleasure of hiking with for the re-opening of the paths on Green Mountain. Iím sure I will continue to meet new people every day. My stay on Ascension is relatively short, only one year and in that time I have three objectives: advance the US mission, take care of the people, and integrate with the community. In many ways the three objectives are one in the same. I canít do my mission without the good people I have on base and in turn we need our community partners. I will do as much as I can to attend community events, volunteer when possible and encourage those I work with to do the same. In turn please feel free to come to the open areas on base such as the Volcano Club and Snack Bar and on-base events like the US Independence Day BBQ this past week. Please also continue to say hello if you see me out and about in my big blue truck or just walking around. I always enjoy shaking the hands of the people who are hosting us. Thanks again, I know this is going to be a great year with plenty of challenges and fun.

Major Andy Emslie

Commander, Ascension Auxiliary Air Field, 45 OG DET 2
