Ascension : Adios Amigos

Once again the time has come to leave this beautiful island full of people I am privileged to call friends.

Adios Amigos

Once again the time has come to leave this beautiful island full of people I am privileged to call friends. This tour on Ascension, shorter than planned, has, for the most part, been enjoyable, but unnecessarily challenging. The successes are down to the hard work and resilience of the Power Station staff, who often go the extra mile without the recognition they deserve. For this, plus all the help they have given me both on this tour and my previous two, I would like to offer a big THANK YOU to you all. Keep up the good work; keep the lights on and the water flowing (through the taps!).

Of course an operation such as the Power Station also has to call on the help, support and co-operation of many others around the island and I would like to thank Mark Thomas and his team for his help and support with the fleet maintenance, Nicky Benjamin and his team for all the assistance with heavy plant, Kitty George and Carl Thomas and their teams for the support before and during the fuel delivery plus everything shipping and marine, Wing Commander Mark Taylor for support with urgent needs to get people and equipment in to allow us to maintain the operation, Peter Francis, Hensil Williams, Robert Yon, Errol Duncan and the rest of the team at IDL for the hire of equipment, support and information with projects and preparations for the fuel delivery, Ed Haynes and the Operations team for the help and support with past projects, the US Base Power Station staff for their help, the hospital and dental staff for keeping our boys and girls in good health, Billy Minto and the team at the AIG Fire Station, Barry Yon, Mervyn Isaac and Lisa Young and teams in the Obsidian Hotel for help with accommodation and car hire etc, staff at Two Boats Club and the Saints Club for help with meals during the fuel delivery and helping to keep our visiting Senior staff fed and watered, Caz Yon for information and support, Sir Worm for all his help (wheels up in 13 seconds man!!) and to all those who I may have missed out, thank you.

Thank you to all those who helped with the leaving do especially Chantelle, Glen, Sam & Elaine, Aaron Peters (boots), the bar staff and all who helped clear up. I hope everyone enjoyed the evening, I know I did.

And a special thank you to Toni for the meals, the walks and all the help throughout this tour.

Hopefully see you all again, either in the UK, Ascension or back in St. Helena.

Good luck and best wishes to everyone.

Bob
