Thinking that desertions, formal balls and ship arrivals had thinned the ranks for this week’s hash the hare had decided to just do a simple Letterbox walk to  celebrate the Winter Solstice.

As the hash formed up he realized that he had failed to take into account football widows and distraught England fans.  Badly outnumbered, the Turtle Head thought he was doomed, one false move or comment and the ladies would turn on him like a pack of rabid hyenas. Fortunately the arrival of Brows, blissfully unaware that he could be used as a sacrifice, forestalled that. The only brief was that there was no crying allowed, the On-On was sounded and the group headed down the Marty-Wade track, not getting far when the Pestis clan caught up. It was a leisurely stroll down the track, around the gate and passing the Spire Beach trailhead traumatizing Tipex as she recalled last week’s exciting episode. The group paused at the bottom of White Horse then started the climb up, at which point Brows decided he would await the survivors return. White Horse is considered one of the more difficult Letterboxes because of the ascent but the hash made it look easy. Arriving at the summit the Letterbox was signed and a pause to take the excellent views of the southeast side of the island. There were some questions about how to get back down but since the hash has yet to invest in a helicopter the best way down is the same path up. This took a little longer but all arrived back at the base with no tears and surprisingly little blood. The Post Hash was short, but the Turtle Head was comforted on the trip home knowing he left at least one lady with her legs a quiver.
