The Ascension Island Government is seeking to recruit a dynamic individual with excellent customer service and IT skills to fill a position of Clerical Assistant – Shipping at the Ascension Island Travel Agency Office (AITA).

The Ascension Island Government is seeking to recruit a dynamic individual with excellent customer service and IT skills to fill a position of Clerical Assistant – Shipping at the Ascension Island Travel Agency Office (AITA).

The main duties of the post are:
• Preparing Manifests and Bills of Lading for all outgoing cargo.
• Acting as a Tally Clerk for issuing of incoming and outgoing cargo including freezer packages.
• Carrying out warehouse duties, which include calculating cargo measurements and applying appropriate freight/handling rates.
• Updating the global passenger booking system on a regular basis and issuing passenger tickets.
• Preparing and submitting data to Finance for invoicing in respect of passage fares, MOD and RMS, St Helena cargo transactions, cancellations fees etc.
• Filing typing and sending and receiving emails, faxes, etc.
• Co-ordinating tours for visiting tourist ships.
• To understudy and act as a leave relief to the Executive Officer - Travel.

The successful candidate must:
• Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in office administration.
• Have a good standard of education preferably to O level standard.
• Have the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Be computer literate and able to demonstrate a good standard of competence in the use of word processing, spreadsheets and receiving and sending e-mails.
• Be customer care orientated.
• Possess initiative, drive and have excellent communication skills for dealing with people at all levels.
• Be flexible to meet the needs of the Organisation.
• Have the ability to work independently and to use their own initiative, but refer matters for guidance whenever necessary/appropriate.

This is a single status position. Salary for the position will depend upon qualifications, experience and ability. The successful candidate will also receive a cost of living allowance, rent free accommodation, utility allowances, mid-tour passage/flight, free medical and primary dental treatment and generous baggage allowances.
