An eclectic group formed up at
Springer’s Beach Hut, Barney and Jim had kindly volunteered their beach hut for
this week’s hash. Long-time hashers, new faces, old time returning hashers,
there was even a lawyer. And yes, for those concerned readers everyone who came
in contact washed their hands. Over-N-Done With was one of the first to arrive
having replaced her trusty sidekick with a newer model. The Bum’s appeared
showing off their latest addition Sawyer on his first hash.  Long Ranger and Wannabe Brit were re-visiting
the island after a long absence, their last hashing being done in the Uncle
Festus era. Happy Ending and her cohorts could be heard off in the distance keeping
Ascension safe from the communist menace.

Due to a series of technical
difficulties the hash itself had not been set, so the hash brief was short.
Follow the verbal instructions and the hazards included other beach parties,
low-flying aircraft and imaginary circle checks.  This hash was set up as a running hash,
naturally none of the dedicated runners showed up. The On-On sounded the rabble
headed off down the road.

This was not a particularly inspired
hash since it was set up for the runners. Straight down the beach front road to
the 1st circle check at the Pan Am Beach hut. From there it was
across the South-East Bay Beach to Drunk’s Hideaway back up to the road to
circle around the fence and pick up the trail to Turtle Shell beach. Hash
discipline faltered here for a minute on seeing the beach party going on at the
newly remodelled MOD Beach hut, with nearly half the hashers almost abandoning
the hash. After regrouping the hash headed across the beaches, in what was
possibly Ascensions first barefoot hash. Ploughing across the thick sand of
Clarke Beach spread the hash outwith the front runners going over the ridgeline
at Morris Creek and the rest opting for the road course.

Arriving back at Springer’s, the school
contingent had to leave before the food because of prior commitments; they
don’t know what they missed. Snowballing Grecian manned up the grill slaving
over the hot coals cooking up some excellent tuna donated by our friends on the
Harmattan, Danke Colin en Craig. Soggy Boozer and Sue brought side dishes and Wannabe
Brit cooked up a pork and rice jambalaya, even the teenage boys left full. Ken
once again slipped off, not realizing due to the technical difficulties the
necessary equipment for the naming’s was not brought.  And as the sun went down and darkness fell
another Ascension hash ended.
