Ascension : ROUNDERS NEWS, WEEK ONE:

ROUNDERS NEWS, WEEK ONE:

Despite the big downpour of rain on Saturday's debut match, the weather was not about to dampen the spirits of the players. All teams are varied this year, filled with "newbies", "come-backers" and "oldies" (with the oldies showing them how it's done.) For the first match, SAINTS N SINNERS went up against AMATUERS (as spelt), Caroline Murrey showed very good pitching skills in her very first match. Carrie Augustus and Christabelle Wade of AMATUERS made 5 impressive rounders each, I think we should be keeping a close eye on these two in matches to come. Sunday was the second -much sunnier - game, DOWN N DIRTY versus STRIKERS ELITE. The match was a close call throughout, with a half time score of 7 to just 7 and a half rounders. Both Selena Lawrence and Tanya Benjamin showed rapid experienced skills in stumping out players at first base and Casey Lawrence also scored 5 speedy rounders. All in all for the first week, we saw many swift runners and some strong batters, the outcome is too soon to tell... Thanks to Cindy Corney, Loretta Henry, Marie-Anne Dennis and Cherilee Thomas as this week's umpires.

Final scores:

SAINTS N SINNERS 4 ½ - 22 AMATUERS

DOWN N DIRTY 11  -  9 ½ STRIKERS ELITE
