VC Milan starts the season with a bang, showing their
intent to keep their hands on the Championship with Cox leading the way with 4.

The game started
with Inbetweeners showing a vast improvement compared to last season, creating
several half chances early on with Ianie Lawrence playing a through ball for
Sue to chase and Duncan Stroud playing at the centre of Inbetweeners defence
releasing Danni down the right wing whose ‘shot come cross’ made Errol Thomas in
the Milan goal make the first save of the match. As time went on Milan started
to find their feet and Ashley ‘Dutch’ began to break up the Inbetweeners play in
midfield and Andrew ‘Kingy’ started to pull the  strings alongside him.

The first goal came
in 12 mins when Chae Leo the Inbetweeners Goalkeeper made a poor clearance
which went straight to Jason ‘Gustus’ on the edge of the box who in return
placed the ball into the top corner of the goal. Inbetweeners came back at
Milan at the restart but Jermaine ‘Sercy’ showed experience and composer in the
Milan defence playing them out of trouble. The second goal came soon after with
‘Kingy’s’ twinkle toes in midfield allowing him to put Aaron ‘Boot’ through one
on one with the keeper and calmly slot it home. ‘Gustus’ started to swing in
several dangerous crosses from the right wing that Duncan and Crocky were
having to deal with under pressure from the Milan forwards, Geordie ‘Cox’ and
Cody Harris. One of Duncan’s clearances went out for a throw, allowing Ashley
‘Dutch’ to throw in a trademark long throw into the box that eluded everyone
allowing ‘Boot’ to head in his second and Milan’s third.

Inbetweeners did not
give up, Callum John came back to midfield to collect the ball and floated an
inch perfect cross over the Milan defence for Scott Duncan to run on to but his
cross was put behind by Errol. ‘Cox’ then received the ball deep in the
Inbetweeners half and released Ashley ‘Dutch’ who forced Chae to make a decent
save which came back to ‘Cox’ who nutmegged one defender and took it around
another before slotting it in for four. Inbetweeners still not deflated came
back at Milan again having 3 more shots before the half ended with one from
Ianie causing Errol to scramble across the goal to make the save.

The second half
started like the first finished with ‘Kingy’ running the midfield for Milan,
with Scott and Duncan making invaluable interceptions for Inbetweeners. Inbetweeners
started to lose their shape, perhaps through the lack of experience which gave
Milan the opportunity to create chance after chance. The fifth and sixth goals
came in quick succession both from ‘Cox’ one at close range and the other his
hat trick was the goal of the match. Cox controlled Errol’s goal kick with his
first touch, swivelled and without allowing the ball to touch the ground volleyed
in from just pass the half way line, leaving Chae in the Inbetweeners goal
wondering what had happened.

Milan was starting
to enjoy their selves despite the efforts of Greggy Lawrence and Ianie in the
Inbetweeners midfield and was lining their players up for the chance to score.
‘Sercy’ and Bryn also took chances to break forward from defence to get in on
the action. ‘Kingy’ then went on a mazy run from midfield and capped off a
brilliant Ascension debut with a goal of his own in the 61st min.
Cox finished the match with his fourth and Milan’s eighth, proving that he can
still do the damage despite being less mobile than he was 10 years ago!

Milan has showed
that they are in it to win it once again this season but despite the score line
Inbetweeners can take a lot of positives from the match, one being they have
discovered a talented defender in Duncan Stroud who also received the Man of
the Match award.
