ASCENSION ISLAND GOVERNMENT
Required – Part time drivers for weekend Public Transport Service
The Ascension Island Government is keen to establish a light touch, low cost public transport service between Georgetown and Two Boats going via US Base and Travellers Hill, allowing people to freely enjoy themselves without the fear of being caught drinking and driving.
We’d like to employ a few part time drivers to run this weekend service. This offer of part time work is open to anyone who is already employed on Ascension or dependents/spouses of employees. If you have a Class D driving licence and you are responsible, friendly and professional with customers, able to handle cash and be reliable at running the bus service on time we’d like to hear from you.
We’re ideally looking to employ 4 or more drivers which will allow you to work around your normal every day job and have a free weekend if you need it. With 4 or more it will also provide cover when you’re off island on leave. The bus service will not be able to run if we are not able to employ at least two drivers.
In the first instance the service will operate with one 16 seater transit bus conveying people between the clubs from 8pm on Friday to 2.00am on Saturday and 8pm on Saturday to 2.00am on Sunday. The last pickup will be at 2am so work can finish by 2.45am at the latest. Within these times drivers will be able to have a break. If the service becomes popular AIG can consider running two buses at weekends if they are able to recruit sufficient part time drivers.
The service will be managed by the QSHE and Projects team and drivers will be responsible to the MT (Motor Transport) Team Leader.
Rates of pay offered are:-
Friday night/Saturday morning £10.00 per hour
Saturday night/Sunday morning £14.00 “ “
With these attractive rates you are able to earn after tax £60 on the Friday night/Saturday run and £87 on the Saturday night/Sunday run. This also includes payment for an hour’s cleaning. You’ll be provided with cleaning materials and the cleaning can be done at a time convenient to you and at selected areas in Georgetown or Two Boats should you need access to water.
We’d like to hear from you if you would like to support this essential paid community service and become a part time driver. If you’d like to know more about it or would like to give it a go please get in touch with Cathy on 6233 by 29 March 2013.
