Ascension : Two Boats School Yr 7 & 8 - World Book Day
Submitted by The Islander (Islander Editors) 07.03.2013 (Article Archived on 21.03.2013)

World Book Day 2013 will be celebrated on 7th March. It was celebrated for the first time on 23 April 1995 but is now held annually on the first Thursday in March.

World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading.

Year 7&8 have shared some of their favourite books with you to celebrate their enjoyment of reading.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------

My favourite book is Love and Other Dramas by Sarah Webb.

This book is about a girl who lives an ordinary life but doing new things like meeting new friends and celebs.  My favourite character is Mills because she is shy and makes this book exciting by doing pranks and sneaky stuff.

I would recommend this book to teenager girls because it is fun and exciting and you don’t know what will happen next.  This book is a definite page-turner.  Robyn

 -----------------------------------------------------------

My favourite books are the HIVE series by Mark Walden.  These books are about a group of teenage criminals that are forcibly sent to a school hidden in a volcano, that trains young, evil minds to be super-villains.  At first they try to escape from the school, but they soon feel at home and battle many sinister threats to the school.

My favourite character in the books is HIVE mind, a witty artificial intelligence who is programmed to run the school.  Despite being a computer, ‘he’ is often affectionate  to the pupils and even makes rash, heroic decisions.

I like these books because there is rarely a dull moment, and the action happens on a global scale, going from the Jesus Christ status in Rio, to a hectic chase through London, and even a battle in Air Force 1!  I would definitely recommend it to teenage action-lovers.                      Alexander

-------------------------------------------------------------

My favourite book is Best Friends by Jacqueline Wilson.

This book is about two best friends who are really close but one of them has to move to Scotland.  They really don’t want to part so they pack a bag each and run away.  They manage to get so far but then their parents realise they had gone and eventually find them.

My favourite character  in this book is the girl who moved because she really cares for her friend and isn’t bothered if she gets told off if she runs away with her.

I would recommend this book this book to others because it has a good storyline to it and at the end of every chapter it leaves you at a cliff-hanger and you feel as though you can’t put the book down.    Ebony

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

My favourite book is The Enemy by Charlie Higson.

This book is about the whole of the world catching a disease     except for children.  The children see these people as zombies but they call them grown-ups.  A group of people stay in London in a supermarket with a lot of protection from the grown-ups.  The grown-ups eat the children because there’s not much food for them.

My favourite character in the book is Sam who was caught by the grown-ups in London and brought to Arsenal's Stadium.  He managed to escape by setting Arsenal’s Stadium on fire and running away on a bike back to the supermarket.

I would recommend this book to teenagers who love reading horror stories because it’s gory and has zombies in it.    Liam
