Past
Week’s Weather

UK

High
pressure has dominated this past week bringing light winds and fog at times
for much of the UK.
The North had most of the sunshine but also clear skies and hence lower
temperatures at night for the beginning of the week. Interestingly there were
above average temperatures recorded in Scotland but it remained colder
than average in the South!

Falklands

A
ridge of high pressure with low cloud and occasional mist at first. Rain and
drizzle at times through the early part of the week with light to moderate
winds but brightening up to give some sunny spells from Thursday and into the
weekend. The winds strengthened and became gusty by Monday.

Ascension

A
fairly cloudy start to the week with a few lights showers. Poorer conditions
on Thursday with low cloud and light to moderate showers causing poor
visibility at times. Sunnier and drier towards the end of the week with moderate
winds.

St. Helena

Some
showers and drizzle initially but then clearing through to give mainly dry
but cloudy days with the odd light shower particularly towards the end of the
week. More showery conditions on Sunday.

Extreme weather, compiled by Rae N Bowe

The weather in Asi seems to be
behaving itself recently so I thought I’d let you know about some of the
extreme weather which as been experienced in parts of the world this week:

In Athens on Monday torrential rain caused
extensive flooding. Up to 60mm of rain fell in just a few hours – to put this
into perspective the monthly
average for Athens
is 50mm! Authorities were forced to close major roads and the central subway
station.

Tornadoes developed across Louisiana and northern Florida ahead of a winter storm on Tuesday
which brought extreme conditions that caused chaos on roads and at airports.
12-22 inches of snow fell and visibility dropped to 50 feet at times. In Armadillo
snow drifts reached 7 feet and a state of emergency was declared.

Record breaking snow fall was
recorded in Northern Japan on Friday. The
snow blanket south of Aomori
was more than 16 feet thick!

Aren’t you glad you’re on Ascension?
No more complaints about the occasional showers please!
