Ascension : SAINTS MEMBERS’ CLUB ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Submitted by The Islander (Gavin Yon) 29.07.2004 (Article Archived on 12.08.2004)

The Annual General Meeting of the Saints Members’ Club was held at the Club Hall on Friday, 16 July at 8 p.m.

Introduction

The Annual General Meeting of the Saints Members’ Club was held at the Club Hall on Friday, 16 July at 8 p.m.  Disappointingly, attendance was poor and the six members, Club Manger, Club Financial Clerk and Committee members who turned up, were welcomed by the Chairperson.  The meeting arrangement this time offered a more informal ‘social’ setting:  seating set out in table groups and small eats and drinks provided at the close of the meeting for those who had attended.  Members had previously been encouraged to attend and not be put off by any anticipations of being ‘roped in’ for Committee places, but rather to come and show an interest in and appreciation of their Club and what it offers.  However, it’s pleasing to report that no-one felt under pressure and those members attending, offered themselves to serve as entertainments members and were welcomed on board by the Chairperson.

 Club Management

Following confirmation of the previous A.G Meeting Minutes and matters arising from those Minutes, the Chairperson, Mrs Iva Henry, paid tribute to the Club Manager and staff for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the running of the Club.  She reported that the Club’s finances were in a sound state which can only be attributed to the effective management of it and the continued and regular support of its members and the general public. Worthy of note is the fact that the Club thrives without any support of an organisation, as has been the case in the past. Miss Catherine Leo was given a vote of thanks for auditing the accounts and  subsequent recommendations.  Among other matters of Club business, Mrs. Henry outlined the improvements made to the Club’s interior, particularly of the furnishings, and the activities organised for the members’ entertainment.  One of the highlights of the past year was the Family Fun Day which gave members, their families and friends the opportunity to socialise in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and participate in activities that helped to make the event an enjoyable one.  Finally, the report ended on a vote of thanks to those members who, ‘behind the scenes’, willingly give of their time to assist at special functions.  The elections then followed.

 Elections

After the Chairperson had explained the make-up of the Committee according to the Club’s constitution, nominations were invited from the floor.  It was proposed that the present Committee members be re-elected, and in the absence of one executive committee member, a proposal made for a new Treasurer.  Once agreements had been reached, the new Committee stood as follows:

Chairperson (re-elected)            Mrs Iva Henry

Secretary (re-elected)                Mrs Betty Joshua

Treasurer (newly elected)           Mrs Rosemarie Wade

Member (re-elected)                  Mr Carl Peters

Member (newly elected)             Mr Brian Bennett

                                            Mr Peter Youde

                                            Mr Chris Henry

                                            Mr Kevin Wade

                                            Mr Patrick Brooks

                                            Mr Mark Constantine

The new members were thanked for their interest and willingness to stand as well as those who would continue to serve the Club.  Thanks were extended to members of the previous Committee who had supported and served the Club in  various ways. A suggestion that the Committee considers taking on a Young Member who would have a voice on the Committee for the young people of the Club.  This was agreed to be a good idea and the suggestion would be followed up shortly.

To round the evening off after the close of the meeting, members and families sat around and relaxed and partook of some tasty eats and drinks.
