Past Week’s Weather

UK

Low pressure with Atlantic fronts dominated at the start of the week, but mainly in the north of the UK. From Tuesday, high pressure building from the south brought mostly dry and settled and quite mild weather across much of the UK.

Falklands

Mainly westerly winds through the week, with frontal troughs from the Andes being generally weak, producing only small amounts of rainfall.

Ascension

Another fine, dry and sunny week with just a few showers – mainly confined to the upper slopes of Green Mountain.

St. Helena

The transition to warmer, drier and sunnier conditions is now well under way, with showers mainly light and confined to overnight, and sunshine averaging up to around 5 hours of bright sunshine per day.

Interesting Missive, compiled by Donald Duck

2012 turned out to be a very wet year across much of England and Wales, although not so for Scotland and Northern Ireland. For some parts of England it was the wettest year on record, with rainfall totals for the calendar year only expected to be reached once in every 200 to 500 years.

Below are the rainfall totals (in millimetres) for 2012 as recorded at the above sites:
