A fearless but small bunch of hashers this week; some tired from spending the previous night camping on the beach, others from the sheer effort of reaching half term. Still they were not to be put off. Hazards this week were large rocks, small rocks, loose rocks, brittle rocks and some trees. Lots of rocks then and 7 circle checks.
After some hanging around for The Last Turtle Head of Doom and the beers, the hashers set off hopeful that the beers would appear before the end. On-on was called and off we set with the younger hashers at the front, as usual. The trail started through a sandy gully and up the other side, over the path and on-on. Up and then down and up again. By the first circle check there was already lots of huffing and puffing. On-on again and it was clear who had the energy with Dozy ‘alfpenny, Sniffy, Hot Fuzz and the Hairy Pair taking the opportunity for a brief sprint when there was chance on the sandy tracks, Bus Driver brought up the rear in the absence of The Last Turtle Head of Doom.
On-on and more circle checks with the trail taking us to a small secluded beach which many of the hashers hadn’t visited before. Views and the interesting rock formations were admired and after a brief rest, the more energetic hashers set off again. Another circle check was reached which led to a great view of the coast line. The youngers hashers spotted TLTHofD near the cars in the distance – spirits were lifted as that meant that the beer had probably also arrived. There was no stopping the hashers now and they sped off following the trail.
There was some confusion as the hounds had run out of hash and had to direct the hashers. The only problem was that Bum Ride and Bum Fluff couldn’t agree on what route they had decided. One of the Hairy Twins was eager to set off back along the start of the route as we crossed an earlier part of the path. He was soon brought back to heel and the hashers headed back to the cars with a spring in their step. Those more eager for refreshments were first back with Sniffy, Soggy Boozer and Boozy Head taking time out to look at the graves at Bonetta cemetery. Soon all were assembled and refreshments and stories were shared. Everyone agreed a good first hash from the Bums.
Next week: 10am at Conservation to assist with the beach clear up.
Date for your diary: Saturday 4th November, Halloween Fancy Dress Hash. Start thinking of your costume now.
The problem isn't finding out where you are gonna go-its figuring out what you are gonna do once you get there that is! A Walk to Remember.
