HMS ARCHER GRAVEYARD

In the 1865 the HMS Archer arrived with yellow fever victims, two were buried at Comfortless at the Bonetta Cemetery, and five others at Monkey Rock near ‘San’.

This grave yard is one of the small grave yards. The words HMS Archer and an anchor are marked out in boulders on the sand of a tiny cone north of Pyramid Point, but there is doubt as to whether fever victims were buried there.

Other largely indecipherable initials in the sand are more recent, some from World War 2.

Activity Day with Two Boats School

Last week Jolene and Natasha assisted Two Boats Primary School on their activity day out on Green Mountain.

Jolene giving a talk about the work we do with the endemic plants.

We provided assistance with the bouncy castle and water sports, as well as tours to the endemic plant restoration site.

Children in the restoration site being shown one of the endemic ferns Xiphopteris ascensionense

It was a very nice day and enjoyed by all. Thank you to Two Boats School for visiting Conservation.
