Thank you

We would like to thank the Military Group Four Scotts for volunteering their time to help clear the Path to the Dew Pond on Wednesday 6th June 2012.

Thanks guys for all your help!

Diamond Jubilee at the Turtle Ponds

The AIG Conservation Department would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the Diamond Jubilee party at the Turtle Ponds for respecting the access restrictions to Long Beach, and to the Ascension Island Police for setting up cordons to minimise any disturbance to nesting turtles. Conservation staff were on hand to check for any hatchlings drawn to the lights, but fortunately the night went without event. As you know, Long Beach is a globally important nesting site for the endangered green turtle and the Conservation Department maintains a strict policy of no parties at night on the beach during turtle nesting season (December – July). A one-off exception was granted for the Diamond Jubilee because of the historic significance of this event for the Island. Normal rules regarding parties on Long Beach continue to apply - if in doubt please contact the Conservation team before arranging an event. Thanks!

Please be advised that due to on-going field work the Conservation Office will open from 7.30am -10am during week days. We open as normal on Saturdays, 10am-12noon, signs will be posted on the door when the office is closed. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Volunteers welcome. Please contact Natasha Williams or Jolene Sim.  Ascension Island Conservation Department. Georgetown. Tel: 6359. Email:  natasha.williams@ascension.gov.ac  or jolene.sim@ascension.gov.ac
