Hello,

What a week of excitement it has been!  All around Britain and the Commonwealth, the Diamond Jubilee of HM the Queen was celebrated with much joy.

In between catching up with the organised events here on Ascension, it was great to witness the events live on TV as they unfolded.  The River Pageant was a wonderful spectacle despite the typical British weather.  It must have been a special experience for the thousands of spectators lining the banks of the Thames.  Ascension’s representative, Councillor Neil Lawrence and his partner Malinda attended the celebrations along with St Helena’s representative, Councillor Tara Thomas.  No doubt they will have some wonderful memories of the occasion, plus photos for the album and stories for their families!

Celebrations such as these are great for bringing the community together, with families and friends enjoying the fun and festivities.  It is occasions like these that show the strength of a community and it was great to see everyone participating in what was an historic and joyous occasion.  I was eleven at the Silver Jubilee celebrations and I still have vivid memories of the celebrations on St Helena.  It was great to see the youth at the centre of this week’s celebrations; memories they will treasure for many years to come.

To all who were involved in the celebrations, thank you and well done for all your hard work in making this a memorable and fitting occasion!

Unfortunately there aren’t any TV listings this week as the BFBS website wasn’t updated, which makes for a slimmer than usual edition.  Enjoy the rest of your week!

Nicola
