This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. There will be a Family Eucharist in St. Mary’s with the traditional Palm Sunday procession
and the blessing of the Palm crosses. Some of the prayers will be led by the
children and the address will give them something to think about.
In the very first Holy Week, a lot of very unholy things happened to Jesus: treachery, mob-violence, disloyalty, jealousy, malice, deceit and injustice to name a few so why call it holy week? ...because in Holy week, God defeated satan and overcame the forces of evil; because the holy purposes of God out– weighed, out-shone and out-played the unholy actions of unholy people.
In Holy Week, God’s love triumphed over mans’ hate, good overcame evil, and the holy love of God forgave and transformed our weak sinful natures. In the last week of Jesus’ earthly ministry, in the flesh, the events of the cross and resurrection changed the course of human history and brought into being a new People of God.
