ASCENSION ISLAND GOVERNMENT

Vacancy – Green Mountain Keeper & Driver to the Administrator and Governor

__________________________

The Ascension Island Government has a vacancy for a Green Mountain Keeper and Driver to the Administrator and Governor.

The principal duties of the post are:

1.    To maintain key pathways and conservation sites on Green Mountain.

2.    To provide handyman services and light touch garden maintenance at the Residency.

3.    To provide occasional driver services to the Administrator.

4.    To act as driver to the Governor when he is on Ascension Island.

The successful candidate should:

·         A full driving licence, including ability to drive the difficult roads on Green Mountain.

·         Be physically fit – the Mountain is a difficult terrain and keeping paths clear involves physical exertion.

·         An interest in conservation issues.

·         At least basic skills in gardening, fencing and general household repairs.

The successful candidate must also:

·      Be prepared to work occasional late evening duties as the Administrator’s driver. There is no regularity to this work – some weeks and weekends are busy, others are not. The jobholder must be flexible, prepared to work evenings at short notice, which all efforts will be made to keep such occurrences to a minimum. Overtime for this role will be available.

·      Be prepared to sign a commitment to maintain the privacy of the Administrator and his family members – in keeping with all staff working from the Residency.

The job holder should also be prepared to reside on Green Mountain, though flexibility on this point may be possible. For further information about the post, please contact AIG’s Human Resources Adviser.

The post is offered as a household (only suitable for someone living on Ascension who is already a member of another person’s household that provides accommodation and allowances) or single status post. The successful applicant’s salary will depend upon ability and experience. If engaged as single status the successful candidate will also receive an allowance of £2,797 per annum, rent free accommodation, utility allowances, mid-tour passage/flight, free medical and primary dental treatment and generous baggage allowances.

Application forms and a job description are available from the Administrator’s Office by telephoning 7000 extension 131 or by e-mailing nicola.dillon@ascension.gov.ac .

Completed application forms should be submitted to the Human Resources Adviser by hand/post or on fax number 6152 or e-mail alan.nicholls@ascension.gov.ac by Friday 16 March 2012.
