What made news on Ascension in January 2002? The front page of the Islander invited St Helenians to vote for Air or Sea Access. What a difference 10 years make!

What made news on Ascension in January 2002?  The front page of the Islander invited St Helenians to vote for Air or Sea Access.  What a difference 10 years make!


The new Conservation Centre opened in Georgetown and the last 10 years has seen phenomenal progress and work in this field.


The Ascension Island Girl Guides held a departmental sports tournament – imagine a tough grueling week of skittles, darts, rock fishing, football etc. finished off in true Ascension style with a BBQ!


Of course the Hash Trash was well established by then so a Saturday afternoon’s run or walk was still on the cards.  And the pupils of Two Boats School continued their interest in the wider world by taking a closer look at Japan.  This is continued today with their interesting article on Flat Stanley.
