Ascension : Announcement - Bernard Edward Pauncefort 1926 – 2010
Submitted by The Islander (Ascension Island Government) 02.06.2011 (Article Archived on 16.06.2011)

Bernard Edward Pauncefort died peacefully on July 14 2010, aged 84 years, after a dignified battle with cancer.

Bernard was the Administrator of Ascension Island from September 1980 to August 1982. He was also the Administrator of Tristan da Cunha from February 1989 to January 1992.

It was Bernard’s wish that when he died he should be cremated and his ashes scattered at the Monkey Rock Cemetery on Ascension Island. The ashes of his wife, Patricia, were also scattered at the Monkey Rock Cemetery shortly after she died in January 2004. Bernard’s ashes will be brought to the Island on Monday 6 June 2011 and after a short ceremony at the Monkey Rock Cemetery, on Tuesday 7th June 2011 at 4pm, the ashes will be scattered in the area. An appropriate plaque will be placed at the cemetery to commemorate the event. Persons who either remember or worked with Bernard are welcome to attend the ceremony. It would be appreciated if anyone attending could be present by no later than 15.50hrs
