Ascension : Thank You From David & Linda Moyce
Submitted by The Islander (Islander Editors) 17.03.2011 (Article Archived on 31.03.2011)

As you all may recall back in February 2010 after our return to Ascension Island from vacation in St Helena, I returned back to my employment with Ascension Island Government (AIG)

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS FROM
DAVID & LINDA MOYCE IN UK.

As you all may recall back in February 2010 after our return to Ascension Island from vacation in St Helena, I returned back to my employment with Ascension Island Government (AIG) continuing my duties as a mechanic at the Georgetown Motor Transportation Workshop.

Shortly after returning to work an incident occurred whereby a motor part went missing from the AIG store. It was a part identical to that of which I was enquiring about earlier on behalf of another person and later that same day I was accused of stealing this part from AIG store and was suspended from work almost immediately.

Following my suspension several members of staff and myself were asked by the Director of Operations and our Team Leader to give them a statement. Note no report was ever made to the Police by AIG even though I requested for AIG to call the Police as I knew I DID NOT steal the motor part.

The interviews with myself and other staff members took place and I was notified of my dismissal from the company and had to catch the next voyage to ST Helena on the RMS. I was very unhappy about the way in which the whole situation was handled and the decisions AIG made to terminate my contract without any proof of the evidence and I knew I was innocent. I took the case to the Public Solicitor in St Helena. After several months infact a whole year has gone by, I can now take this opportunity in thanking The Public Solicitor, my family and my friends, who all sat by me, and supported me in some way or the other and can now tell you that the case is closed.

With Ascension Island Government failing to publish their HUGE APPOLIGIES to myself and my family who they put through this most unfair and difficult time, I can now tell you all that I HAVE WON this case and has been compensated by AIG as a result.

I have written this to you all via the Public Newspaper to make it CLEAR that while I was accused by AIG of stealing this motor part even though they had no evidence of it in my procession to this very day, I can now let everyone know that I did not steal anything whatsoever from the AIG transport Store.

Both Linda and myself like to THANK our family and friends once again for all you did for us. We have appreciated your support and patients throughout. I needed to make this CLEAR and PROVE to everyone that I was INNOCENT and never lied to any one of you.

Take Care! And hope to see you all again one day soon.

Best Regards

David Moyce (UK).
