To qualify for election as a Councillor you must:

CRITERIA TO STAND AS A COUNCILLOR
To qualify for election as a Councillor you must:
a. have attained the age of 21 years and be eligible to vote in the election for which you are nominated; and
b. be a British Overseas Territories Citizen, British Overseas Citizen or British Citizen who:
i. resides on Ascension Island;
ii has resided for at least 12 months immediately preceding the date of nomination for election; and
iii is registered as a voter on the Register of Electors.
Disqualifications for elected membership
The Island Government (Ascension) Ordinance 2008 sets out certain disqualifications for elected membership and refers to persons:
a. who have been convicted of an election offence; or
b. who have within five years immediately preceding the date of election, served a sentence of imprisonment of 12 months or more; or
c. who holds, or is acting in, any public office designated by the Governor; (a list of such public offices can be obtained from the Administrator’s Office.)
