“Extreme Fishing With Robson Green” Visits Ascension

There is no doubt that everyone on Ascension (and beyond) have already heard the news that the “Extreme Fishing with Robson Green” TV show is headed to Ascension!

Extreme Fishing with Robson Green is for Channel Five television in the UK and is now in its 4th series.  He has been everywhere from Alaska to Zimbabwe and done it all from catching stingray in Thailand to barramundi in the Australian outback.

But, series 4 will be Robson’s ultimate fishing challenge! An epic adventure taking him from the edges of the oceans to the extremities of the continents; from cobalt seas to barren islands.  Along the way he will pit himself against some of the rarest and most

remarkable fish in the sea, and – as always - meet people whose passion for fishing matches his own.

The series airs in a prime time slot on a major terrestrial network in the UK.  In series 4 there will be 6 episodes worldwide, including in Ascension Island, Papua New Guinea and Patagonia. More information on the series and previous programmes can be found at www.five.tv/extremefishing

Robson, who is married with a ten year old son, was born in Hexham, Northumberland on Friday 18th December 1964.  He grew up on Blyth Close in Dudley – a small mining village in North Tyneside with his mum and dad, his two sisters and a brother.  He is undoubtedly one of the best known faces on British television. He has been associated with some of the most celebrated television dramas of recent times; Casualty, Soldier Soldier, Reckless, Touching Evil and Wire in the Blood.

At the time that he landed the role of Private Tucker in Soldier Soldier he met singing partner Jerome Flynn on the way to work in the taxi. After singing in an episode of Soldier Soldier, Robson and Jerome began their recording career and to date have achieved three No 1's - Unchained Melody, which spent 7 weeks at No.1 with sales of 1.39 million copies, followed by I Believe/Up on the Roof 4 weeks at No.1 (887.000 copies sold) and then What Becomes of the Broken Hearted/Saturday Night at the Movies which was No.1 for 2 weeks. Music videos released by the partnership have also sold phenomenally well - So Far So Good sold 450,000 copies, while their second release Joking Apart sold 248,000 copies. Their first album Robson and Jerome secured the biggest advanced order (700,000) of any album or single of 1995 sold 1.84 million copies and was at No.1 for 7 weeks. Their second album Take Two entered the charts in the number one slot and sold 1.13 million copies. Need we say more?

His hobbies include following his favourite football team Newcastle United, Astronomy and of course – fishing. In July 1998 he received an Honorary Degree as a Doctor of Civil Law from the University of Northumbria.

Robson is now a qualified pyrotechnic and after completing a course to learn about rockets and fireworks has a Category 4 Fireworks certificate.

We are sure that everyone in the community will make Robson and his crew very welcome!
