RUNWAY FUN RUN Anyone wishing to take part in this event must register their team (4 or more people), between 0800 – 0825 hours, on the day.  The run will begin at 0830 sharp!  All participants’ vehicles are to be parked at the US Fire Department area and not along the road, or approach end of runway.  Base Fire/Security will then bus folk from this point to the start (departure end of runway).  Don’t forget to wear either red/white/blue (or all three colors), or try for the ‘best dressed team’ award.  Entry fee of £3.00/$5.00 per person – (½ of money collected will be donated to Girl Guides and the other ½ will form 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prizes).  Small gifts will be available for all kids up to the age of 12 and certificates for all who take part.

VOLLEYBALL COMPETITION District teams that have signed up to play are to report to the USAF Base volleyball court between 1030 – 1055 hours on Saturday 3rd July.  Games will begin at 1100 hours sharp.  District pair-offs will be drawn from a hat and a single elimination factor will be in effect.  Presentation of trophies to winners and all participants will take place at 1330 when the awards for floats will be given out.

FLOATS All float participants must report (with their float) to the Base motor pool between the hours of 1100 – 1145, for positioning, on Saturday 3rd July.  The parade will begin at 1200 sharp and will be led by Colin Yon (Mickey) and his band.  It is anticipated that the procession should arrive at the Carnival Arena at 1300.  So…if you don’t want to miss out on seeing the entries in all their glory…do come along at this time and support the efforts of the participants.

NOTE:  Floats will be parked at the back of the Carnival arena and can be viewed throughout the afternoon.

DISTRICT SPORTS – District teams have been invited to enter in for this ‘fun’ event – which will be a series of tasks set to determine who has the most skills on Ascension Island!  Prizes awarded to the winning team as well as awards for all participants.

NOTE:  So far, only the Base and Georgetown folk have entered teams.  Come on Two Boats and Travelers…don’t let these two areas go unchallenged!

MISS VC CONTEST Once again, this is designed to be a fun event, whereby men (dressed as women) will compete for the title of ‘QUEEN’ of the VC!

Currently, there are 5 entries.  We are looking for more!

Please call Marie-Anne Dennis (work: 2616/2269 - home: 2293) if you would like to enter this competition – we need to know how many will be participating for catering purposes! So…come on guys…pluck up the courage…get on your girly gear and come and shake your tail feathers…all in the name of fun!  Great prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place as well as something for all those who participate!

PIE IN THE FACE AUCTION Based on the success of this event last year – we will be holding an auction again, whereby pies can be bid upon and then rubbed it into the face of one of our unfortunate ‘volunteers’…who have unwillingly agreed to allow themselves to be ‘pie-d’ – once each only.  Names will be revealed on the day!  So…do bring along your checkbooks…plus your best bidding voice…and YOU could be the one to make these ‘chosen folk ‘eat cake’!

GAME STALL PRIZESOnce again, there will be lots of  ‘cuddlies’ (toys) up for grabs, ranging from small, medium, large to extra large – as was the case last year!  However, this time there will also be jewelry prizes (to suit men & women), kids play toys, household goods, electrical appliances, even an acoustic guitar and the grand prize of all….the latest Apple iPod Touch (32 GB – 3rd generation).  All you will have to do is test your skills at the many games on offer and you could be the proud owner of not one, but several furry friends, as well as any of the other great items mentioned!

NOTE:  In order to play any of the games, you will need to purchase tickets.  A booth will be available throughout the day.

GAMESAs mentioned in previous adverts, more game stalls have been included in this year’s carnival event – and to peak your interest, below is a list of what will be on offer:

LIVE BAND/DISCO  D.I.V will take the stage, following the Miss VC Contest, to entertain you with a selection of songs (and based on their spectacular performance last month – something to look forward to) …and finally, to round up the whole celebration, a disco will be held in the Beer Garden gazebo area - DJ Smudge!      NOTE:  Disco will end at 0200 hours!
