Bishop John announced to the Diocesan Council held at Bishopsholme Boardroom on Monday, 10th May 2010, that he would be retiring in March next year.

He will leave St Helena and move to the village of Walsingham in North Norfolk in the Diocese of Norwich.

He said he would have liked to retire here on St Helena, but it would not be fair on the new Bishop.  He said that he would give the new Bishop time to settle in and then he would visit St Helena again.  He went on to say, “I have St Helenian Status and so St Helena is also my home.

I will miss everyone terribly.

I love St Helena and its people.  I'll definitely be back
