After 40 plus years on Ascension they are heading off to St.Helena for a well earned rest!
Tony (Cox) Peters & Patsy Peters
On the 11th January, Tony & Patsy Peters will sail on The RMS to St. Helena to their home and settle there.
Tony & Patsy is one of the most decent couple I have known on the island. They are both hard working, talented and always willing to help. Tony is, without doubt, one of the best craftsmen I have come across- I have several of his crafts in my home and each one of them is appreciated & admired by my friends & family. I am sure, it is a similar story in many of the households in UK, SA & USA- a departing gifts for many employees on the island. Tony also had a practical and commonsense approach to any of the work in which he was involved. He is a gentle of a man and has earned the respect of the employees he worked with and also of the managers-who were capable of recognising his talent.
In general, more people will know Patsy, as more people visit the bar at Two Boats Club. She has the welcoming smile, efficiency and tidiness around the bar.
The most significant thing about Tony & Patsy is that throughout their working career on the island, they have seldom taken any sick leave. They have looked after their health & welfare of others in the community with dignity and professional courtesy.
I understand, Tony decided to bring forward his departures for reasons right for him and that decision should be ( & has been ) respected. Yet, I am very much surprised & very much disappointed that there has been no proper & decent farewell for his many years of dedicated service. Is it possible, that the management & staff are so engrossed with job insecurity that they have lost the spirit & decency to the simple & honourable tradition of recognition & show of appreciation for an employee who deserves it 100%. If it is, Shame on you!
Tony & Patsy, I am grateful to have a privilege of meeting & getting to know you as friends & decent people. Raxa & I wish you the best of health, happiness & peace in St. Helena- I am sure your craftsmanship will continue to be a success there also.
