Ascension : Museum Mystery
Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 08.05.2008 (Article Archived on 22.05.2008)

The Heritage Society is trying to locate this rock! It was carved by the men of the 898th Regiment around 1947.

“898th Engrs

First to leave the states and last to return”

Doug Rogers took this photo in the late 1960s and said it is located above Bates’ Tank at Dampier’s Drip, although we haven’t been able to find it!

Does anyone recall exactly where it was?  We’re wondering if it has been buried by rockfall, if the writing has been eroded, or the rock might even have been moved!!

If anyone out there knows anything about this rock or its location, please contact a member of the Heritage Society!!

Or email us at:  heritage@atlantis.co.ac
