Submitted by The Islander (Ascension Island Government) 07.02.2008 (Article Archived on 21.02.2008)

The Ascension Island Government (AIG) Fire & Sea Rescue Service (F&SRS) wish to inform members of the public of a procedural change in place with immediate effect regarding the receiving of information relating to “Emergency Incidents” requiring their attendance.

ASCENSION ISLAND GOVERNMENT FIRE & SEA RESCUE SERVICE

The Ascension Island Government (AIG) Fire & Sea Rescue Service (F&SRS) wish to inform members of the public of a procedural change in place with immediate effect regarding the receiving of information relating to “Emergency Incidents” requiring their attendance.

Previously Cable & Wireless were responsible for receiving reports of incidents occurring through their operations and relaying the collated information to the F&SRS. The new system in operation now enables the F&SRS to receive the information direct from the person making the call.

As far as callers reporting emergencies are concerned there are no changes in what you have to do, you must continue to dial “6333” as before, the new system relates only to the receiving of emergency calls and not the reporting of them.

The F&SRS would like to take this opportunity to thank Cable & Wireless on behalf of Ascension Island Government for their technical research and support in realising the project.

William Minto

Senior Fire Officer
