Ascension : REPORT FROM JIMMY LAWRENCE KNOCKOUT CUP FINAL Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 19.07.2007 (Article Archived on 02.08.2007)
Retards crushed Georgetown’s hopes of winning the triple and retained their honour by winning the Jimmy Lawrence knockout cup final by a goal to nil.
The goal came from a corner kick which was deflected of a defender’s head and bundled into the net by Adriaan Crowley.
Georgetown gave it all they had to bring the match back level but the knockout specialist wasn’t having any of it. Georgetown had a few serious cries for penalties which were denied by referee Martin Andrews.
Man of the match Carlin Yon controlled the Retards midfield as Georgetown tried to push forward. Anthony George was shown a yellow card late on in the match for a challenge from behind; he was taken to hospital and received five stitches above his left eye. (Very silly challenge Anthony, Craig wasn’t going anywhere).
Presentations were carried out with Mr Johnny Hobson as the MC and trophies were presented to players by Miss Shelley Magellan - Miss Ascension Runner Up – thanks to both of you.
The football association would also like to thank all players who took part in this year’s competition, the referees, spectators, Peter Williams from AIG Public Services and all others who helped in anyway.
