Ascension : Conservation Weekly Submitted by The Islander (Raymond Ellick) 02.11.2006 (Article Archived on 16.11.2006)
This week we have a message form two students from the UK and France who are volunteering with us for 2 Months
Hi!
We’d like to introduce ourselves to you all... Our names are Rachel and Malvina and we’re here volunteering with the conservation team for two months.
Last week we were out in the field working with various members of the team; getting an insight into the different conservation projects that are currently going on and getting to know everyone.
This week we begin our own research project. We will be conducting land-based and boat-based whale and dolphin surveys, and hope that the data we collect will go towards giving a better picture of abundance and distribution of the different species found around Ascension.
We are keen to involve as many of you as possible in our work, in the hope that when we leave the island, you will be able to continue with the project. So if you are interested in joining us for a day dolphin and whale-watching, then please contact the conservation office on 6359.
We look forward to meeting you,
Rachel and Malvina
For further information on this project please contact the Conservation Centre on 6359 or e-mail tara.pelembe@ascension.gov.ac or natasha.williams@ascension.gov.ac
