Arrival of New Passenger Launch
When the RMS St Helena arrives in Ascension Island on 11th January she will be carrying the new AIG Passenger launch, which has been constructed in Capetown, South Africa.
The 54 seater Launch is a purpose built boat that will be used mainly for the transfer of passengers to and from the Pier-head to the RMS.
The purchase of the Launch from Public funds is part of the ongoing development of Public services on Ascension Island.
A competition was organised in Two Boats School to choose a name for the boat and this will be decided shortly from the 51 entries received.
The Launch will be registered in UK by Marine Coastguard Agency and later this month a representative from this organisation will visit the island to undertake an assessment of the Launch and the Coxswain staff in preparation for the issue of their Boatmaster Licence, which a standard certification in the UK.
